Home Worship

Two adults and two children reading the Word

“You shall teach these words of Mine to your children, speaking of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.” (Deuteronomy¬†11:19)

Whether we are single, married or married with children, our lives are enriched spiritually when we make worshiping the Lord a regular part of our lives. We hope that as often as possible you will feel inspired to join us on Sunday mornings so that we can worship the Lord and learn from His Word together. However, we also recognize that this isn’t always possible. Work, sports, vacations, distance and other things can sometimes make getting to church on Sunday morning difficult. We at the New Church of Concord still care about supporting you on your spiritual journey! With this in mind, we provide opportunities for individuals and families to worship at home when circumstances don’t allow them to join us in person. Having a private worship service at home does not have to be complicated. Here is a simple outline you could follow:

  1. Place a copy of the Lord’s Word on a table and light some candles.
  2. Open the Word to any random page and leave it open on the table.
  3. If you enjoy singing, sing a song everybody is familiar with (if you have kids, let them pick one).
  4. Kneel and say the Lord’s prayer.
  5. Go to This Week’s Inspiration and pick one of the following options: Listen to an audio recording or Podcast of this week’s sermon; print and read this week’s sermon; read the summary of this week’s inspiration. If you have children go to For Our Children for some suggestions of what to talk about based on Sunday’s children’s talk.
  6. Spend a few minutes reflecting on this week’s inspiration. What did you find interesting or helpful? What questions do you have?
  7. Close the Word.
  8. Put out the candles (if you have children, they will enjoy helping with this).

These are just suggestions. Don’t hesitate to contact our Pastor, Matthew, if you’d like some more help or ideas about how to have a simple worship service at home. If you can’t always join us in person, we’re excited about providing you with this opportunity to still reflect on the same Divine teachings that are being offered to your friends in church on Sunday morning! This will help us all feel more connected with each other, engaged with our church, and inspired by the beautiful teachings and life that the Lord’s New Church invites us to embrace.
